It took almost two decades before international action was taken to address the issue. Once an international consensus was reached via the Montreal Protocol in 1989, nations and CFC producers moved at an accelerated pace to replace these compounds with less ozone depleting alternatives. The climate crisis we now face is a much larger and more complex problem that requires an unprecedented level of consensus and commitment to address.
