I think that the idea is that it's important to try diplomacy rather than not try diplomacy; there's no guarantee that it'll work, but if you don't try then you can't know what's possible.
Lieven is the best informed and reasonable commentator around so it was a real coup to get this long interview with him. Wonderfully clear, reasonable, and informed judgment about the Ukraine war. Great line where it is pointed out that if Chomsky and Kissinger agree on something (as they do on the war), then it is well worth the media taking note.
As far as analogy from history, the US use of fascist forces in Greece to overthrow the 'Resistance' post Nazi occupation (anti-fascist democratic unity coalition, the National People’s Army of Liberation) might be worth a look.
Tremendous work, Andrew
Thanks so much! I'm glad that you found it useful! :)
A. Lieven said many-many words to justify one thing: West must stop supplies to Ukraine for Putin hates that. That's a complete false statement.
1) Putin has been already waging the war to maximum escalation possible, nothing more he can do.
2) Putin never sticks to agreements, he will not comply with any ceasefire.
3) Putin failed to concur Ukriane so he seeks a ceasefire to regroup and to stop weapon supplies to Ukriane.
Putin has shown many times that no one must trust Putin and Russia.
Thanks for commenting!
